Holidays (any holidays) can bring out some feelings for people, and not always cheery. Particularly at this difficult time in the USA, with so many threats hanging over our heads, the future can llok like something to not look forward to. I’m trying, myself, to look at the larger arc of how we got to where we are and despite myself, I am optimistic that we are heading towards a new progressive era.
Rather than go on and on about that, as I am really not much of a writer, having cultivated a different part of my brain towards the visual, I have been amassing a series of commemorations of leaders in the form of my posters. In that pantheon are some of the following, and upon further reflection there are many more to be added. Most are in positions of policy setting and of getting into the mud of making those policies happen. Politics is a really ugly business; so much easier to remain aloof and be a critic, as if a better world involves shopping, like a consumer with a catalog of gorgeous items, and simply clicking on the policies of the future we would like to see. Heh. As if.
So, I am still getting around to this Pantheon of posters and have posted several recently. In the meantime, here is a developing list for future posters of progressive leaders* in my pantheon, and yes it is going to be heavily weighted towards females because a woman has so much more in terms of obstacles to overcome to get even to step one, and yes it is NYC-skewed:
Jerry Nadler • Nancy Pelosi • Michelle Bachelet • Mark Warner • Dave Toscano • Creigh Deeds • Leslie Cockburn • Sally Yates • Kathy Galvin • Carol Bellamy • Sonya Sotomayor •
